You are considering and deciding whether to buy a used automobile. These are some pieces of advice to check before buying a used car.

Choosing a used car will give us lots of experience to handle and identify the problems of the car. Some enthusiasts even become an automobile expert.

Moreover, you can know which car is the new one, which is about to break through the details of little attention. The below experience is accumulated from many “masters” in the car market, which you can use to find out and avoid partly car problems that the owners deliberately hide as well as to learn how to bargain for the most reasonable price. Here are three things to check before buying a used car.

Checking the origin of the car

This factor is extremely important because you can avoid the trouble of legal papers later. When buying a used car, you need to check the registration number, vehicle registration documents and insurance register (if any) etc and then compare with the Identity Card of the seller.

The origin of old automobiles must be clear

  • Obviously, a second-hand car with the officially-registered owner would be preferable. However, you should be careful because several kinds of automobiles are disguised with the brands or logos of the company and business while they are highly likely to be waste products of the old taxi companies.

  • Our advice: you should avoid buying cars just by exchanging the car documents, without signing an official contract, except for buying from your acquaintances. Furthermore, the sale and purchase documents need to be notarized.

Checking the body of used cars

Almost all used cars are “cleaned” before the sale so that they look quite shimmering. However, it is advisable to note the following:

  • Firstly, you should pay attention to the inside of the doorknob, door handle and door lock controls. If they are too worn and glossy, they are likely to be used for too long. Checking carefully the doorknob and door handle.

  • Secondly, you need to check the joints that connect car shells, the folding edge in the door frame or glass windows, chassis frame, mudguard. These are positions where water and mud are stained and they are easily prone to rust. In case of an accident, the crashed cars even have the unnatural welds while the original cars are welded by robots so the welded positions are fairly smooth. Making sure the folding edge, classic frame, mudguard is still in good condition.

Checking the interior of the car

Many buyers are dazzled by a glossy new interior, but that can be a big mistake when buying used cars because the sellers often “clean” the interior before the sale. As a result, you should be cautious if everything inside looks too shiny. In most cases, it is advisable to check the following points when inspecting the interior of a used car:

  • Checking the dash mats, the part most affected by sunlight. If this part shows signs of crack and discolor, it is certain that the car has been used for a long time.

  • Looking carefully at the seats, especially the driver’s seat. If they are used for a long time, the seat cushion will be flabby, torn and unstable. In case they are leather-covered seats, the leather will show signs of peeling and cracking.

  • Looking carefully at whether the plastic parts degrade or not

  • Checking whether the headliner material is new.

  • If the car has been used by many owners, it will have an unpleasant smell, which is very hard to be completely eliminated.

  • Locks will be deformed and the keys will wear out if the car is used too much.

  • If the accelerator, clutch pedal, and brakes are worn out, the car may have been used a lot.

  • Checking the functionality of the air conditioner.
