In the near future, it will be compulsory to link driving licence with Aadhaar. The question is, how can you link driving licence with Aadhaar
1. Why have to link driving licence with Aadhaar
Aadhaar is the official document that serves as the proof of address and the identity of every Indian citizen. This document includes a 12-digit unique number that is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). First introduced in January 2009, the Aadhaar has gradually become one of the most essential documents. As per recent reports, UIDAI is planning to make it compulsory to link driving licence with Aadhaar.
Multiple driving licences will be eliminated when the driving licence is linked to Aadhaar
It is not uncommon to see a person who owns more than one driving licence. By linking the driving licence to unique Aadhaar, the government can make sure that each citizen would not own more than one driving licence, thereby eliminating the fake and duplicate driving licences. It would be easier to identify the owner of the vehicles as well as better handle all the related data. It is important to know that after the deadline, all the driving licence which are not linked to Aadhaar will become invalid.
The issue of driving licence is under the control of the state government’s Road Transport Department or the Union Territory. Thereby, each state will require a different procedure to link your Aadhaar with your driving licence. But still, all states will apply the same core steps. Linking Aadhaar with a driving licence can be easily done at home without going to the state’s offices. For now, this process is not initiated yet. However, after all the legal and infrastructural preparation is completed, this new process will be official.
