Volkswagen has announced to the auto fraternity that they have already released the Car-net telematics services which come updated with Siri commands: “Hey Siri, lock my car” to lock/unlock their vehicles.

The American auto manufacturer has launched its Car-net telematics service with Siri update which can enable lock and unlock a VW vehicle with other various versatile functions. While other carmakers already bring smart connectivity in their models using certain features via smartphone apps, VW is the among first automakers to adopt voice assistant system for their products.

For using this function, Volkswagen owners need to get an iPhone with iOS 12 and the Car-net app. They could deploy the remote-controlled unlock/lock functions, distance tracking, flash headlights adjusting, fuel/charge range checking, automatic crash notification and many more after logging into the app.

Siri shortcut functions are also capable of setting routines for charging the EV, turning on the defroster and setting cabin temperature. It shares a couple of similarity with Amazon Alexa and Google Home that are more and more inevitable for car telematics.

In reality, celebrated car manufacturers like BMW, Ford, Hyundai or Lexus have already brought in interfaces with Google system and Amazon as a tool for car owners to control car functions from their house and vice-versa. The Siri integration in the Car-net application could operate controlling the vehicles from your bedroom or changing a household thermostat when you are behind the steering wheel might be attractively convenient. Actually, it’s hidden some hazards for users such as driving distraction or the fear of being hacked on the system. However, it is an optimistic prospect for the VW community since Apple is highly complimented for providing the highest security-data storage devices worldwide.
