Is your car using wet-cell battery or dry battery? What should you know about changing the car battery? Here are a few things to consider when replacing the car battery.

A car battery is one of the most important parts of the auto. It taks on the role of an energy storage for running the auxiliary pieces of equipment such as radios, air conditioners, lighting systems, etc. More importantly, the battery provides power for the starter and ignition systems and serves as a power supply in case the load exceets the rated current of the transmitter.

Car batteries are divided into two main categories:

  • Wet-cell battery

  • Dry cell battery

Wet-cell battery can be supplied with additiontal water, and dry batteries need no maintenance and disposable batteries until the power is off.

When choosing to buy or replace a new battery, the owner should note these following points.

1. The capacity of the battery

The first thing to note is the capacity of the batery. Capacity is measured in Ah which represents how much energy the battery stores.

The capacity of the battery is worthy to note

Replacing the old one by another which has the same specification is a good choice. In case you need to a larger one in terms of capacity, you can get the recommendation from battery dealer's instructions. If the car's electrical system needs only 12 volts, that we use the battery of heavy trucks with a voltage of 24B will damage the system. Therefore, the appropriate battery must be selected to provide the right voltage to the vehicle.

2. Transmission line

Regard of the diesel-powered cars, the CA - cranking amps and cold cranking camps (CCA) are the two significant factors. The ignition system needs a strong start current to provide enough power for the engine. Diesel starters require a lot of energy for compressing air to heat up. The fuel, then, can burn up and start the engine.

The "starter current" parameter is the maximum current that the batteyr can deliver within 30 seconds at 0 degree Celsius. Teh voltage of each battery compartment often reaches a minimum of 1 to 2 V. The cold start current is also measured in the same way. However, at a temperature of -18 degrees, each chamber reaches a minimum voltage of 1.5 V. The coold start up current of the car battery ranges from 150 to 800 amps.

3. Battery size

Choosing the size of the battery is also very important. A battery even is high in power but not appropriate in size, yet still, cannot be used. Therefore, you should think carefully before making a decision with a battery that fits the car.

4. Brand selection

Most branded batteries have a longer lifespan, hence, they are better known than unregistered ones. According to the German Technical Inspection Association (GTÜ), conventional car batteries often have a life expectancy of 4-6 years.

5. Other notes

Finally, you should try to carry rings, clocks or lines near the battery because if there is any unfortunate short-circuits, high currents can run through which causes severe burns. Also when replacing the battery, it is highly recommended from IndianAuto that you should always unplug the cathode or cool in advanace. If you then accidentally touched an insulated cooler, power supply cord or hot wire, the short circuit will not occur.

In case of battery charging, you need to be in a well-ventilated area as the vapours emitted in this process are very explosive.
