Maruti Suzuki is one of the most sold hatchbacks in the market today. Here we will give you some reasons why you should by this car and its downside as well.

Maruti Suzuki Swift is the well-loved hatchback in India even since its debut in 2018. Earlier this year, the Swift has come into its third life and packed with more comfort and convenience function and especially, a good standard safety package. At the starting price of 4.99 lakh, the Swift continues to undercut many cars in its class, making it one of the most worth-considering cars in the segment. Here we will give you the reason for and against buying the models.

1. Stunning design

The Swift has always been known for its signature vintage look. The unique and charming retro style has helped the Swift to easily stand out and creating a unique selling point. Toward the third generation, the Swift still holds on to the classic look that made its name, but Maruti has smartly added some twists to make the appearance of the car more modern and relevant in today’s standard. The design of the Swift is mostly inspired by the new Dzire with similar front grille and headlight units. But clearly, it is still the Swift in many other aspects, for example, the swooping roofline and the muscle rear end.

2. Better performance with higher mileage

One of the factors that contribute to Swift’s undeniable appeal is its convincing performance, especially with the new Swift. The third-gen Swift has cut down in weight as it is now developed on a new platform – the Heartec which is also used on the Baleno and the Dzire. The lighter gross weight allows a better performance with improved driving dynamics, and moreover, an increased fuel efficiency. The mileage ranges from 22kmpl (petrol) to 28.4kmpl (diesel).

3. AMT option on offer

The third generation comes with AMT options on the V variants for the first time. At the price of 6.37 lakh, you can have an automatic car with the petrol engine with all the necessary safety feeds like ABS, EBD and airbags while the same package with the diesel engine is available at 6.99 lakhs. AMT is also offered on the higher-spec variant like the Z or Z+.

4. Fully-loaded feature list

Maruti has given the Dzire with all the goodies that are needed on a hatchback. Most noticeably, the Swift has desirable standard safety features that some cars only offer on the top-spec variant. Here are what you will get for the base variant:

  • Tilt-adjustable steering

  • Power Steering

  • Air Conditioner

  • Manually-adjustable ORVMS

  • Anti-Lock Braking System with EBD

What Maruti Suzuki Swift should improve

There is barely anything wrong with the new Swift. But there are still some things that it could do better for the next generation.

  • Interior plastic quality: It would be better if the Swift comes with higher quality material which will make it even more premium.

  • Stiff riding: The stiff suspension makes the Swift better at handling, however, the riding quality will be sacrificed. As the result, it could not offer a comfortable ride, especially on bad roads.

  • Safety: Ironically, even packed with a fully-loaded safety kit, the Swift turns out to poorly-perform in the Global NCAP crash tests, only score 2 stars on the test due to the unstable structure. It causes a serious concern about the safety of the Swift.
