Recent spy pictures of the 2020 Hyundai i20 have surfaced on the internet. Spied during road test in South Korea, the test car wears medium camouflage on the bodywork, giving us a better look at the car than the spy pictures.
As seen in the picture, the next-gen Hyundai i20 has a silhouette similar to the outgoing model. That said, the front grille, bumpers, headlamps, and taillamps will be completely different. The upcoming premium Hyundai hatchback will have a much sportier design as well, in line with Hyundai’s latest design philosophy, dubbed “Sensuous Sportiness” by the company. The headlamps are sleeker than the current model, and the foglamp housing is now triangular in shape. The alloy wheel design is also quite pretty, dual-tone (or diamond-cut as it is also called) with five split-spokes. These will most probably be 16-inch wheels.
The rear will have wrap-around LED taillight design, somewhat along the lines of the recently launched Hyundai Aura sedan, but much better and sportier in execution. The rear windshield seems to be quite raked, giving the car a pseudo-coupe profile. There is also a roof spoiler on offer and a shark fin antenna, both adding to the sporty credentials of the new i20.
The interior of the 2020 i20 hatchback will be completely new as compared to the outgoing version. There will also be better equipment on offer, like a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, along with better upholstery and a fresh dashboard design. While there is no confirmation about the powertrains of the car, we expect the next-gen i20 to feature the same three engines as the Hyundai Venue; there will a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (83PS/115Nm), a 1.4-litre turbo-diesel (90PS/220Nm), and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (120PS/171Nm) on offer. These will be paired to either a 5-speed manual, a CVT, or a 6-speed manual (turbo-petrol exclusive). The car will rival the likes of Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz, and Tata Altroz.
