While India is set to remain under lockdown till May 3rd, people have aggressively taken to social media while being confined to their respective homes. People are sharing pictures of their previous trips and travels as a throwback to better times. This is something that's even been done by a few celebrities. Recently, Imtiaz Ali shared a picture of his first-ever car and its first road trip- a Maruti 800 from Bombay to Goa!
Imtiaz Ali's first car was a Maruti 800
Imtiaz Ali’s Maruti 800 is a second-generation model, which was launched in 1986. The car had a 796cc, naturally aspirated, inline-3, carburetted engine. This motor was capable of producing a measly 38 PS of maximum power output! The car lacked features like AC and power windows, but offered plenty of driving character. Owing to its lightweight and low-slung body, the 800 felt like a go-kart for the streets! Safety was not of paramount concern back then, and thus, the Maruti 800 was never subjected to any crash tests.

Maruti 800 was first introduced to India in 1983 and was kept in production till 2014. The first model was based on 1979 Suzuki Alto. Maruti Suzuki, (known as Maruti Udyog back then) was founded in 1981 by the Government of India, and a majority stake was acquired by Suzuki later in 1992. With nearly 31 years under its belt, the 800 has had the second-longest production run for a car in India, following the Hindustan Ambassador.
Maruti Alto Could Be Discontinued In 2021
Imtiaz Ali is perhaps one of the best directors in Bollywood right now. He is responsible for some of the most influential cinematic classics, like Tamasha (2015), Highway (2014), Rockstar (2011), and Jab We Met (2007). While his most recent movie project (Love Aaj Kal reboot, 2020) wasn’t extremely well received, critics and fans have high hopes from the Indian web series ‘She’, which has been co-written by Imtiaz.
