The latest SUVs from Nissan is named Terra. It was introduced for the first time in China in earlier this year. This body-on-frame SUV has arrived in the Philippines and South East Asia before hitting our market.
The Terra is based on the previous Nissan Pathfinder (known as Terrano in North America). Nissan Terra will be the next large body-on-frame SUV to take on the likes of Ford Endeavor and Toyota Fortuner. Here are some good things to know about this new SUV.
Nissan Terra is introduced in the Chinese market before tapping into the South East Asian market
Sitting one the premium SUVs segment, the Terra boasts an accordingly large size. It is even bigger than other ongoing SUVs in the market in some aspect. Specifically, the Terra is bigger than Fortuner and Endeavor, two biggest competitors. We could hope for a respectably roomy space inside this big car. Let’s see the detail specs of the Terra, in comparison with the Endeavor and Fortuner.
Nissan Terra | Ford Endeavor | Toyota Fortuner | |
---|---|---|---|
Length | 4882mm | 4892mm | 4795mm |
Width | 1850mm | 1860mm | 1855mm |
Height | 1835mm | 1837mm | 1835mm |
Wheelbase | 2850mm | 2850mm | 2745mm |
The exterior of the Terra features some standard equipment in its segment like LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, and LED graphics on tail lamps. These features are all shared between the Fortuner and Endeavor.
Audio System
Coming to the infotainment system, Nissan Terra is packed with a fully-loaded entertainment features.
A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system
6-speaker audio system
Just like Fortuner, what is missing in the Terra is Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility. The Endeavour edges out with not only a larger touchscreen but also the Apple and Android support app. What’s more, it also offers a 10-speaker system with active noise cancellation and automatic emergency call function as well. In this aspect, the Endeavor is segment-leading.
Nissan Terra will bring into a full-packed feature list
What’s make an SUV most desirable is how it manners and support the drive with comfort and convenience. Fortunately, the Terra is given many creature comforts. Here is the list of what comfort and convenience features offered on the Terra:
Passive keyless entry
Push-button engine start-stop
Electric adjustable driver’s seat
Dual-zone climate control
Electric sunroof
Leather upholstery
Nissan Terra is getting ahead of the Fortuner in terms of comfort and convenience as the Fortuner doesn’t come with valuable and upmarket features like a sunroof and dual-zone climate control. And the Endeavor still keeps one step ahead of the other two with larger sunroof and semi-autonomous parking function, and programmable key.
Nissan Terra is getting a premium interior design any many creature comforts
Here is the safety feature available on the Terra:
Seven airbags
ABS with EBD
Brake assist with ESP (electronic stability program)
360-degree camera
Traction control
Hill start assist
Tyre pressure monitoring system
ISOFIX child seat mounts
Petrol version of the Terra is powered by a 2.5-litre natural aspirated engine. This unit is able to produce 183bhp of power and 251Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic gearbox. As other same-segment peers, the Terra offers other rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive system.
While the Chinese market only gets the petrol engine only. In other markets, the diesel version is introduced as well. The diesel engine for the South-East Asia market is brought from the Nissan Navara. The 2.5-litre YD25 diesel could launch 190Nm and 450Nm. Transmission duty is carried out by a standard 6-speed manual unit or an optional 7-speed torque converter automatic.
Nissan has confirmed the launch of the Terra in South East Asian countries like Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. Considering Terra’s rivals like Endeavor and Fortuner is doing well in India, Indian market stands a high chance of getting the localized SUV.
In the next few months, Nissan will launch its compact SUV Kicks. And possibly, the Terra will follow next on the line-up. These two new SUVs will fill the gap in Nissan’s productions portfolio in India. Hopefully, with this new product, Nissan could improve their low performance in India.
