Hyundai Elite i20 BS6 was launched a few days back at a small price premium over the BS4 models. The company has now started deliveries of the new vehicle.

Hyundai Elite i20 is one of the most popular cars sold by the South Korean manufacturer in India, thanks to its premium looks, plush comfort, and frugal powertrains. Now, in compliance with the new BS6 emission norms, the car has received some major changes.

The biggest change is the discontinuation of diesel engines. As the BS4-compliant 1.4-litre diesel motor previously offered on the i20 will be replaced by the BS6 1.5-litre diesel engine (from the Hyundai Venue) in the next-generation model, Hyundai has decided to do away with it altogether. If you want a diesel i20, you’ll either have to wait for the new model or search for leftover BS4 stock at a dealership level. Apart from that, the petrol-powered variants have had a price hike, and the trims have also been changed slightly. A complete breakdown of the price list is given below, along with a comparison with the price of the equivalent BS4 models.

Trim Name BS6 price (ex-showroom) BS4 price (ex-showroom) Difference
Era Rs 5,59,693
Magna+ Rs 6,49,951 Rs 6,34,950 15,001
Sportz+ Rs 7,36,694 Rs 7,21,693 15,001
Sportz+ Dual Tone Rs 7,66,694 Rs 7,51,693 15,001
Asta(O) Rs 8,30,994 Rs 8,15,993 15,001
Sportz+ CVT Rs 8,31,693
Asta(O) CVT Rs 9,20,993

As you can see above, the base ‘Era’ trim has now been discontinued, making the Magna+ the new base variant. The CVT automatics have also been discontinued, thus making the ‘Asta (O) MT’ the new top-spec trim. Between the BS4 and BS6 version, there is a price difference of exactly 15,001 on each of the remaining trims. As the current Elite i20 will soon be replaced by the new model, we’re sure these trims won’t really be missed. Rather, this is Hyundai’s attempt to clear the remaining stock of the car.

The Hyundai i20 BS6 is powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol motor that does duty in the Hyundai Venue, Aura, and i10 Nios. This motor is capable of generating a maximum power of 83 PS and a peak torque of 114 Nm. It comes mated only to a 5-speed manual transmission, with no automatic option (as mentioned above).
