Due to the lockdown imposed in India, automakers are reporting a huge drop in sales. As people are unable to venture out, nobody is able to visit car dealerships and make new purchases. Many companies have started their own web-based portals for online car buying, and some have also been offering home delivery options. This measure is expected to not only improve sales during these tough times, but shape the auto market’s future in India. We expect normalcy to return soon though, and once it does, the economy can start rebuilding itself. Recently, Indus Motors, a Maruti Suzuki dealership based in Kerala, has started delivering cars to their customers.
A few businesses have been allowed to resume operations, but with extreme care and precaution. Indus Motors is the biggest Maruti Suzuki dealership in Kerala, and has commenced with not only traditional car sales, but doorstep deliveries as well, while maintaining strict sanitary standards. This is great news for car buyers, especially the ones who were waiting on the delivery of their vehicles since before the lockdown. This would also encourage new car sales.

The first car to be home-delivered by Indus Motors was a Maruti S-Presso. This little crossover hatchback was introduced in 2019 and is powered by a 998cc, naturally aspirated, inline-3, ‘K-series’ petrol engine. Maximum power figure stands at 68 PS and peak torque is 90 Nm. There are two transmission options available here- a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.

According to Maruti Suzuki, there will be a huge demand for new cars, starting the day the lockdown ends. Public transport is expected to show a huge decline in usership, since the paranoia of catching an infection will be high among the general public. That, however, is surely not the case at the moment. With a majority of the populace confined to their homes, car sales have been negligible right now. In April, Maruti Suzuki has reported a domestic sales figure of ‘Zero’ for April 2020. Things aren’t different for a lot of other carmakers as well.
