Recent spy pictures of an undisguised unit of the 2020 Hyundai Verna facelift have emerged online, thereby revealing the exterior and interior updates

Following the launch of the second-generation model of the Creta, Hyundai Motor India Ltd is now preparing to launch the Verna facelift this month. While only a mid-life update, the facelift version will bring some major changes to the vehicle, in terms of powertrains, interior, and equipment, and even the exterior styling package.

At the front, the facelifted Verna will have sleeker-looking headlamps and a larger grille with chrome garnishing. The chrome will probably be only available in the higher trims. Apart from that, the rear taillights are also redesigned, along with the rear bumper. There will be six colour options available here, along with four trim levels.

Verna facelift will feature a fully-digital instrument cluster

The biggest cosmetic changes, however, are to the interior of the car. Previously, we expected the same, 4-spoke steering wheel design as the Creta, but it seems like the Verna will make do with a 3-spoke unit. The instrument console, however, is completely new, a fully-digital unit instead of an analogue one. The infotainment system is also upgraded now, with a larger, 7-inch touchscreen display, and you will also get Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car tech on-board. Other than that, the design for the AC vents is also different, and there are fake wood inserts throughout the cabin.

Cosmetic changes aside, the mechanical changes to the car are extremely significant. The Verna facelift will feature three new engines. First, we have a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, capable of producing 115 PS and 145 Nm of maximum power and peak torque, respectively. The second one is a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which can generate 115 PS and 250 Nm. Both these engines are already available in the new Creta. The third powerplant is a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, which makes 120 PS and 173 Nm, borrowed from the Venue. A 6-speed manual shall be provided as standard, with a CVT, 6-speed torque-convertor, and a 7-speed DCT available as options.

The current Hyundai Verna retails for between Rs. 8.17 lakh and Rs. 14.07 lakh. Expect a slight bump in price for the facelifted model. Upon launch, the 2020 Hyundai Verna facelift will rival against the likes of Maruti Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid, VW Vento, and the upcoming next-gen Honda City.
