After the release of the long-awaited Harrier SUV, Tata Motors will continue to work on its new hatchback whose code name is 45X (X451). Placed in the premium hatchback segment, the 45X will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. The concept of the 45X has already been displayed at the 2018 Auto Expo, and the mass-produced version of this car has been seen being on test for quite sometimes since.
Just like the Harrier, the upcoming 45X will be inspired by the Impact Design 2.0 philosophy. Besides, it will be developed on the Alpha platform. According to some source, the 45X might get a mild-hybrid engine which will replace the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine used on the old models like Tiago or Tigor.

The perk of the mild-hybrid engine is better fuel efficiency. It will make the Tata 45X an environment-friendly car with a lowered level of emission. This tech will kick in when the car getting into the idle state and helps the car to speed up. Tata 45X will be the first in the segment to get the mild-hybrid technology. Tata Motors European Technical centre takes the job of developing this tech for the 45X. This is an attempt in response to the BSVI norms. If Tata 45X is getting the mild-hybrid engine, there is no doubt that it will appear on the Harrier as well as the Nexon. The same technology could be seen on the Maruti Ciaz.

Tata hasn’t confirmed anything about the engine. But it is expected that the 45X will be powered by the 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder Revotorq diesel. This engine which could develop 110 PS and 260 Nm. This unit will be assisted by a 48-volt electric motor. About the transmission, the Tata 45X could be mated with the six-speed manual and six-speed AMT
Tata 45X will get the standard safety kit of dual airbags, ABS with EBD. On the top-spec variants, more airbags, reverse parking sensors and rear view camera might be available. Other premium interior features that you can expect to see in the 45X includes
LED headlamps
LED DRLs
LED tail for the exterior and touchscreen infotainment
Smart key
Push-button start
Rear AC vents
Cooled glove box
Possibly, Tata 45X will go on sale later in 2019. The price is likely to range from Rs 5.5 Lakhs to Rs 9 Lakhs.
