Hyundai has launched the new-gen i20 in the country at a starting price of Rs. 6.79 Lakh. The new-gen i20 will go on sale in the country from today itself and will rival the likes of Tata Altroz, Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and more. In its new-gen avatar, it gets rid of the Elite prefix and the Era trim. The new-gen model’s variant line-up will begin from Era variant. Moreover, in the new-gen iteration, the premium hatchback gets a plethora of best-in-class features.

For the design, it uses the baselines of the carmaker’s new global design language ‘Sensuous Sportiness’. On the front, it now features a new cascading grille, which is flanked by upswept headlamps on the sides. However, the India-spec model comes with projector headlamps in comparison to the all-LED units seen on the international-spec model. Sideways, it continues to retain its wedge-shaped silhouette but with an added sense of freshness. There are new 16-inch alloy wheels as well. At the rear, the new-gen model gets Z-shaped tail lamps, which are connected to each other with the help of a reflector. Overall, the all-new i20 looks sharp and modern in comparison to the outgoing model.
Interior of the new-gen i20 is also revamped. The dashboard layout is new, and the cabin features an all-black theme. On the whole, it looks premium than the car it replaces. The feature list is revamped as well. It comprises of a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, OTA updates, multi-phone BlueTooth connectivity, wireless charger with a cooling pad, and voice commands. In addition, it comes with TPMS, hill assist control, Oxyboost air purifier, all-digital instrument cluster, emergency stop signal, ambient lighting, electric sunroof, and more.

To power the new-gen model, there are three engine options on offer – 1.2L petrol, 1.0L turbo-petrol and 1.5L diesel. The 1.2L Kappa motor will put out 88 PS against 113 Nm, and it will be available with two transmission choices – 5-speed MT and CVT. The turbo-petrol unit boats of a power and torque output of 120 PS and 172 Nm. It will be available with a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed iMT. The oil burner, on the other hand, will develop a rated power and torque output of 115 PS and 250 Nm, and it will solely be available with a 6-speed MT.
