As dealerships remain closed, the car can be booked online, via Mahindra’s official corporate website ‘mahindrasuvyou.com’, for a sum of Rs. 5,000. There is no home delivery service at the moment though, unlike a few other carmakers. Also, Mahindra has decided to discontinue a few trim options, including the previous base model ‘W3’, which retailed at Rs 12.31 lakh*. Now ‘W5’ has become the new base model, and is priced at Rs. 13.14 lakh* as opposed to the Rs. 12.91 lakh* for its BS4 version.

The BS6 Mahindra XUV500 is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine, which can generate 155 PS and 360 Nm. This motor is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Previously, there was a 6-speed torque-convertor automatic gearbox also on offer, along with an all-wheel-drive system as well. But both these options are not being provided anymore. Other than that, there even used to be an option for a 2.2-litre petrol engine option with both the manual and automatic options. However, due to poor demand by buyers, it was discontinued last year itself.

With such limited trims and options, it seems like Mahindra is playing it safe as the XUV500 has approached the last leg of its career. The company is already working on a new-generation model of the XUV500, which has been spied multiple times during road tests. The next-gen model is expected to retail with new engine choices. There will be a turbo-petrol ‘mStallion’ engine, and a new turbo-diesel engine, too. The next-gen model will even spawn the upcoming Ford C-SUV as a part of the Indian UV-makers tie-up with the local subsidiary of the American automaker giant.
