Honda City is a key product of the Japanese car manufacturer in the Indian market. Even though the sedan segment does not retain the same level of popularity as before, it manages to attract a number of loyal followers. With the launch of the fifth-gen model, Honda City is regaining its hype and has bagged the number one position in the C-segment sedan space on the sales tally in January this year.
New-gen Honda City is now the most popular vehicle in the segment
The fifth-gen Honda City was launched with various updates for the exterior and interior. In the first month of 2021, Honda sold a total of 3,667 units of the City in India, making it the best-selling model in its segment. Compared to the sales of the same month last year, Honda City has gained a year-on-year growth of 112 per cent. In January 2020, Honda City registered a total sales of 1,734 units. Back then, it was still on sale under the fourth-gen form.
New-Gen Honda City: How The Sedan Was Designed For India
The major reason contributing to the success of the Honda City is its updated and well-equipped feature list. Besides the premium design, the interior of the new-gen City also offers some outstanding upmarket features including an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Alexa compatibility, 7.0-inch MID, a G-force meter, LaneWatch camera, Honda Connect telematics system with 32 connectivity features, a cruise control, paddle shifters (CVT only), and electric sunroof, ambient lighting and more.
The new-gen Honda City is powered by either a 1.5-litre DOHC four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 1.5L four-cylinder diesel engine. The petrol engine is capable of making 121 BHP and 145 Nm while the diesel engine can generate 100 BHP and 200 Nm. A 6-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard in both diesel and petrol engine. However, only the petrol engine gets an additional CVT gearbox.
