Maruti Brezza and S-Cross are expecting new hybrid powertrain by the end of this year. The hybrid versions will be powered by a new 1.5-litre petrol engine.

Maruti Suzuki has been opened up about the launch of its two new hybrid models, Maruti Brezza Hybrid and Maruti S-Cross hybrid. Recently, the Indo-Japanese manufacturer has announced the timeline for the launches of these two hybrid models. According to which, both of these hybrid cars will be introduced by December.

Maruti Brezza and S-Cross will be expected to come with a new hybrid petrol powertrain

Currently, both the Brezza and the S-Cross are diesel-only models. However, with the addition of the new hybrid variant, the engine range will see a new 1.5-litre petrol hybrid engine that provides a maximum power of 106 Bhp and a peak torque of 138 Nm. The same system can be found on the Maruti Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6. On the mentioned models, the engine comes with two gearbox options including a 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Brezza and S-Cross hybrid are expected to get the same gearbox option.

With the increasing competition within the space of SUVs, the popular SUV Brezza is suffering from a sharp sales drop. The crossover S-Cross is also facing the same problem with decreasing sales. One reason why Maruti’s models are losing out to other rivals in the market is the lack of the petrol engine. Most of their rivals are provided with a wide range of engines including both diesel and petrol engines. It poses an instant demand for the Maruti to add petrol engine to the line-ups. The addition of the petrol-hybrid powertrain on the Brezza and S-Cross is expected to boost the sales up.

The current diesel engine of the Brezza and S-Cross might be discontinued soon

With regards to the pricing, it is likely that the petrol-hybrid Brezza and S-Cross will be priced lower than their diesel counterparts. Maruti Suzuki also offers this model with the BSVI-compliant engine at a set go. However, the future of the diesel engine remains unknown. It is not known if 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine will be updated to meet the new emission norms or discontinued. Moreover, at the moment, Maruti Suzuki is offering huge discounts on the Brezza and S-Cross. Customers with a preference for diesel engine should take this opportunity in case the diesel engine is discontinued. For more updates on car, visit IndianAuto.com.
