MG Hector will greet the India market by launching the Baojun-based SUV at the end of this year. The SUV will take on Jeep Compass and sit on the premium full-size SUV segment. On full camouflage coverage, the Hector is spotted doing road test before heading to the dealership.
The Name Is MG Hector
Until now, most of the information around this SUV is still kept under the wrap, especially the exact appearance and other specifications. However, some details about the engine options of the Hector have been out there. MG Hector will be available in both diesel and petrol version. It is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine while the diesel version runs on a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine. The same diesel engine could be found on the recently launched Tata Harrier and its major rival Jeep Compass. Rework is necessary, but it is unclear how powerful this diesel motor might turn out to be after being tunned.
The diesel engine is the same engine that powers the Tata Harrier and the Jeep Compass. Even though the specifications of the diesel engine are not announced yet, petrol’s information is laid bare. The latter engine could generate the peak power of 143bhp and the maximum torque of 250Nm. The 1.5-litre petrol engine powering the upcoming Hector will be a turbocharged unit. Both manual and automatic transmission are offered with this petrol engine. The manual version is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission while the automatic version uses a 6-speed dual-clutch unit.

In regards to other cars in the segment, Hector's engine appears to possess more power on tap. The petrol engine on the Jeep Compass is able to put out 163bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. On the Compass, the power is transferred to the wheel via either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission
MG promises to bring a load of new technologies on their first SUV, including a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, rear AC vents, and cruise control function.
