Two months ago, MG Motors had temporarily closed bookings for the Hector SUV due to overwhelming response. By the end of July, MG had managed to deliver only 1,508 units to customers against a booking of 28,000 units. MG’s plant in Gujarat had a maximum capacity of just 2,000 units, but the plant wasn’t working at full capacity yet. The waiting period for some bookings had even reached 7 months! Owing to this, the company decided to suspend further bookings until previous orders were fulfilled.
Now, the company has resumed bookings for the Hector, but with revised pricing. The entire range has seen an increment of INR 30,000 to INR 40,000 over the older pricing. The base variant now starts at INR 12.48 lakh, going all the way up to INR 17.28 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). Customers who had booked before the announcement and are awaiting their deliveries, will not be affected by the price hike. The current waiting period is set to range from 3 to 4 months, while the company has ramped up production to accommodate its increased demand.

The MG Hector has three powertrain options; a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol, a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol/electric hybrid unit. Currently, the engines are not BS-VI compliant, but they would be upgraded before the April 2020 deadline. Expect another price hike to complement the shift from BS-IV to BS-VI.
