Being one of the most successful offerings from the Southern auto manufacturer, the Hyundai i20 will receive its third generation later this year. Before this, the Korean auto manufacturer has commenced the India-spec 2020 Hyundai i20 at its recently updated plant at Izmit, Turkey which is expected to manufacture around 85,000 units of the new Hyundai i20 per year, which accounts for nearly 50% of the total production of the car all over the world. According to Minister of Industry and Technology in the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Varank, most of the cars manufactured at this plant will be exported to the European car market; therefore, the plant contributes a major part to the automaker’s expansion in Europe.
2020 Hyundai i20 Bookings Unofficially Opened Ahead Of Launch In November
The Izmit plant is under the joint ownership and management of Turkish Kibar Group and Hyundai Motor Company with 70% and 30% skate possession, respectively. Spreading an around 10-million square feet area, the plant has an annual manufacturing capacity of around 2.4 lakh units. It is mostly used for manufacturing A- and B-segment hatchbacks of Hyundai including the i10 and i20.
As regards the India-bound next-gen Hyundai i20, the hatchback is anticipated to borrow the motor options from the Venue with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated gasoline burner, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor and a 1.5-litre oil unit. The transmission options are likely to include both manual and automatic transmission along with the recently-introduced 6-speed iMT.

In the European auto market, the Hyundai i20 will be packed with a wide range of features which include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, Bose-sourced 8-speaker sound system, ambient lighting, navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, etc. Nevertheless, the equipment list will be reduced when the car comes to India.
