Mahindra & Mahindra has finally launched the second-generation Thar in India, and that too at a more affordable price tag than before. Mahindra Thar was perhaps one of the most anticipated launches of this year. As has been expected, the new model now comes with a new petrol heart, while there's also a new-gen diesel engine. What's even better is that the new generation of the rugged SUV is even more affordable than its predecessor.

2020 Mahindra Thar has been one of the most anticipated cars in India this year.
As seen in the spy pictures before, the new Thar is slightly larger than the previous model. The exterior styling has also been updated. The front grille is larger and bolder than before, as are the front fenders. The front bumper has also been redesigned. The side profile remains almost identical to the earlier, boxy design. The tail light is an all-LED unit, rectangular in design, matching the rest of the boxy design. The tailgate opens sideways, just like the previous model, and has a spare wheel mounted on it, just like a proper, old school SUV.

Next-gen Mahindra Thar will feature petrol and diesel engine options
The new Mahindra Thar utilises a new ladder-frame chassis, which is 22 per cent stiffer than the one in the previous model. This would allow the car traverse any trail, no matter the difficulty. To add to the off-road prowess of the car, the new Thar offers two powerful, BSVI-compliant engine options. The entry-level variant is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (mStallion) engine, capable of generating 165 PS and 280 Nm, while the top-spec trim sport an updated version of the same 2.2-litre turbo-diesel (Hawk) engine, but with additional power, 140 PS and 320 Nm. There are only three trims available with the new Thar- one for petrol and two for diesel. The complete spec sheet and price list are given below.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar competes against the Force Gurkha and upcoming Suzuki Jimny (which will be launched as the next-gen Maruti Gypsy). One quick look at the spec sheet though, and you’ll immediately notice that the Thar outclasses both these cars with its sheer power and torque figures. Sadly, the new Thar has not been launched in India, and this was all but a figment of our imagination! Don’t get it? Well, this was all just a simple joke!
It's a prank!
