The 2020 Hyundai Verna (facelift model) was launched last month in the Indian market. Apart from some exterior design updates, the new car also got new BS6-compliant engine options and an updated interior s well. Now, the South Korean carmaker has released the official fuel-economy figures of the BS6 Verna, and they are higher than that of the BS4 (pre-facelift) model.
The 2020 Hyundai Verna is currently the only car in its segment to offer a diesel engine. The upcoming next-generation Honda City will offer one too, but its launch is still a month or two away. Till then, the Hyundai Verna is the only diesel-powered C-segment sedan in the country. Also, its turbo-petrol variant is also the most powerful car in the segment, which is another impressive accolade.

The fuel economy figures of the facelift Verna are quite impressive. Compared to the BS4 model, these figures are slightly higher as well. The primary reason for that could be the slightly smaller engine size and the lower power outputs. The pre-facelift Hyundai Verna was available with multiple engine options. This first option was a 1.6-litre petrol motor, capable of generating 122 PS and 151 Nm. The second option was a 1.6-litre diesel unit, which could produce a maximum of 126 PS and 260 Nm. Other than that, there was a 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel engine as well.

From the tables above, it can be seen that the new, BS6-compliant Hyundai Verna facelift is more efficient overall, compared to the older, BS4-compliant version. The price for the better economy has been paid in terms of reduced maximum power output though, as the newer model has smaller less powerful engines as well.
