Watch how the Kia Seltos fares against the Hyundai Verna in a drag race in the article below. The results might surprise you.
Yes, it’s true. It’s a drag race competition between two road-going cars from different segments – a mid-size SUV vs a sedan counterpart. Regardless, people want to know how the Kia Seltos competes against the Hyundai Verna on the straight line. With a 1.5-litre diesel motor onboard, the Kia Seltos gets less power and torque than the Hyundai Verna which employs a bigger 1.6-litre diesel burner generating 126 BHP and 260 Nm of torque. Can the Verna win the Seltos hands down on the straight road? Read on to know the answer.
We come across this video uploaded by Arun Panwar on his official Youtube channel. The video drives us to a large empty stretch of roads where the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Verna, both white-coloured stand side by side preparing for the drag race. As mentioned above, both the Seltos and Verna are diesel-powered models. The Korean SUV comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine pumping out 113 BHP of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque while the Korean sedan joins the game with a bigger 1.6-litre diesel mill tuned to produce 126 BHP against 260 Nm of torque. The Verna featured in the video is the pre-facelift model. That’s to say, there’s quite a huge difference when it comes to the power and torque output of the two competitors here.
To get a clear picture of how the car performs, the vlogger and his friend have conducted the drag race in three to four rounds. In the first round, the Hyundai Verna had an aggressive start and quickly left the Seltso behind that’s predictable. However, the Seltos didn’t show any sign of coward then. It’s hot on the trail of the Verna till the end. After the first take, the vlogger admitted that he had missed out a couple of gears and they decided to take the first round once more time. This time around, the Kia Seltos managed to change the picture and won the race by a marginal level.
In the second round, it’s the Hyundai Verna to be the winner and the main reason for that is, certainly, nothing than the power. With 13 BHP higher power and 10 Nm more torque, the Verna gets quite an edge over the Seltos regarding the acceleration and speed. On paper, it shows that the Seltos is not going to win this race and the result is not different in reality. The Hyundai Verna gets a well-balanced body design with a lower ground clearance compared to an SUV like the Seltos. Still, both the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Verna are the most popular cars in their respective segments. In their latest avatar, the Kia Seltos is priced at around Rs 9.89 – 17.34 lakh while the Hyundai Verna goes on sale at the price bracket of around Rs 9.02 – 15.17 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
