Mahindra Thar is quite a versatile option for those planning to get home a thoroughbred off-roader. Recently, Mahindra has unveiled the second-gen model of the Thar in the country. However, the older one can be a great purchase from the used car market. It can be modified into a capable rock crawler or a mud clinger with pretty ease. Talking of the new-gen Thar, it flaunts a more modern design in comparison to the last-gen model. However, it continues to get independent front suspension with coil-overs, and a rigid axle at the rear with coil-overs. The wheels are now 18-inches in diameter. Also, the chassis is new and gets increased torsional rigidity. The engine and gearbox options are revised as well.
The new-gen Thar gets 2 engine options – 2.0L turbo-petrol and 2.2L turbo-diesel. The 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor generates 150 PS of peak power and 320 Nm of max torque. The oil burner unit, on the other hand, puts out a peak power output of 130 PS and peak torque of 300 Nm. The gearbox options include a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT. Furthermore, it gets a 4WD drivetrain as standard fitment across the range with a low-range transfer case and mechanically-locking rear differential. The new-gen Thar is slated to launch on October 2 and is likely to be priced in between Rs. 9.00 lakh to Rs. 12.00 lakh mark.
