Recently, Senior Executive Director, Marketing and Sales of Maruti Suzuki India, Mr R S Kalsi, has confirmed that the auto manufacturer will not introduce the new Wagon R as a fleet vehicle immediately.
When interviewed by Autocar Professional, Kalsi stated,
“We are not denying that we will not get into that segment, but at the moment we are focused totally on the personal and family segment, and as far as shared mobility is concerned, we have other options available for the buyers. Whether these are average buyers or these are the fleet owners, we have same multiple models in the hatchback, sedan and van segment. Those options are available to the customers of this model (Wagon R) at the moment. We are positioning it for the personal customers.”
Currently, the new-gen Maruti Wagon R is available with two petrol motor options: a 1.0L engine and a 12L unit. A CNG variant is also underway for development with the number depending on the growth of the CNG network, but no LPG variant is being developed.
The latest generation of the hatchback is supported by the fifth-gen HEARTECT platform. The K10B 1.0L engine which is borrowed from the outgoing model produces a 67.98 PS against 90 Nm whereas the K12M 1.2L gasoline burner is good for 82.94 Ps against 113 Nm. The transmission duties on both the two versions are undertaken by a 5-speed MT and AMT gearbox. The ARAI-rated mileage figures of the two motors are 22.5 kmpl and 21.5 kmpl, respectively.

With the introduction of the new Maruti Wagon R hatchback, the Indian largest automaker expects to reinforce its position in this teeming segment. The Wagon R tallboy hatchback has recorded a total sale of 22 million units since its first launch in 1999. Maruti Suzuki is confident that following the success of the previous generations of the Wagon R, the new-gen Wagon R will soon experience a high sales number.
