Introduced to the Indian auto market for the first time in September 2014, the Renault Kwid has been successful in holding a firm position in the Indian entry-level auto market with a monthly sale of 5,562 units from July to December last year. Getting minor upgrades and special editions many times, the 2019 Renault Kwid has finally received a remarkable update with a wide array of advanced features, two most prominent ones of which are a new infotainment system and more advanced features.

Regarding safety features, the new Renault Kwid is now equipped with ABS with EBD across all of its variants. The driver-side airbag which was previously offered only in the RXT(O) and Climber variants, is now provided as a standard feature. Some other standard safety features include

Moreover, the high mount stop lamp ensures that you can enjoy a pleasant driving experience while the Traffic Assist Mode allows the car to handle well in congested traffic and maintain good balance on slopes. Up to now, it remains to be seen whether the new Renault Kwid gets any structural updates. In July 2018, it was given a zero-star rating in a crash test by ASEAN NCAP. This result was the same in the crash tests carried out by Global NCAP in May 2016. In September 2016, an upgraded version of the Kwid was given a 1.5-star score. The 2019 Renault Kwid is expected to get intensive structural improvements to ensure a safe journey for both the driver and the passengers.
Under the hood of the 2019, Renault Kwid are still the two old engines borrowed from the previous model. While the 0.8L 3-cylinder petrol motor can produce max power of 54 PS and a peak torque of 72 Nm, the 1.0L unit is good for 68 PS against 91 Nm. The transmission duties on both of the two engines are carried out by a 5-speed MT gearbox. Additionally, an extra 5-speed AMT unit is also offered with the bigger engine.
The new Renault Kwid still maintains the same engine and transmission from the outgoing model
Despite this breakthrough in safety and convenience features, the price of the 2019 Renault Kwid has remained the same as the outgoing model, from INR 2.66 lakh to INR 4.63 lakh. At this price range, the Kwid directly competes against the Datsun Redigo and Maruti Suzuki Alto, both of which are projected to get big updates this year. While the Redi Go will receive a thorough update, an all-new Alto will be launched by October.
