Renault announces that the 2018 Kwid get more features for the interior. Will the updates inside enable Renault to regain their status?

The 2018 renewal of Renault Kwid is hoped to revive its prominent status. The Kwid is once at the top of the sales chart back in the days. However, with the launch of other strong rivals in the compact car segment, Kwid’s sales have dropped. On this comeback, Renault aims at bringing the Kwid back as a competitive player. It explains why the Renault promises that the new Kwid will be feature-loaded with more comfort and safety features in the hope to attract Indian customers. Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and Managing Director, Renault India Operations, said:

“We have kept KWID contemporary with regular product enhancements that reflect the rapidly changing and evolving customer trends. Taking this forward, the Kwid 2018 Feature Loaded Range combines design and technical advancements with compelling pricing, which makes it an even more attractive proposition. We look forward to further strengthening Kwid’s popularity and welcoming more customers into the Renault family as we endeavour to consolidate our presence in India”

Firstly, 2018 Renault Kwid will be the first car in the segment to have rear parking camera. This feature, however, is only available in top-of-the-line variants. Besides, rear armrest, 12V charging socket, rear ELR seatbelts will also be included in the interior feature package. In the previous models, the 7-inch MediaNav touchscreen information system is only available on the top-spec variants, but for the 2018 versions, it will be on the mid-range model RXL as well.

Unlike the interior, the exterior does not equally differ from the predecessor and only include some minor tweaks, for example, chrome insert on the grille and side rubbing strip with Kwid name on it.

In terms of engine option, the Kwid will offer 0.8-litre engine and a 1.0-litre engine. Both are three-cylinder and petrol-powered. The 0.8-litre engine has the power output of 54 PS and 72 Nm, whereas the 1.0-litre mill could make up to 68 PS of power and 98 Nm of torque. The transmission options are five-speed manual and five-speed automated manual transmission (available for top-spec variants with a 1.0-litre engine only).

The color options offered are Fiery Red, Planet Grey, Moonlight Silver, Ice Cool White, Outback Bronze and Electric Blue. The price for the Renault Kwid ranges from Rs 2.66 to Rs 4.59 lakhs.

It will compete with Maruti Alto, Hyundai Eon, Tata Tiago and Maruti WagonR on the segment of compact cars.
