Maruti is all set to launch the new-generation Alto by late June or early July this year. The company will even renovate their engine line-up and replace all the non-BSVI-compliant engines with BSVI-compliant units. This will be done in early 2020, which is three months ahead of the BSVI norms kicking in from April 2020. The Alto, however, could bid goodbye to the tried-and-tested 796cc F8 motor and adopt a 660cc turbocharged petrol engine.
The Concept Future S-based new Alto might come available with a highly efficient 666 cc petrol engine
Being Maruti's most successful and best-selling small car in India, the Alto is an important product in the company’s portfolio. Production of the Alto 800 has been ceased for now due to its inability to comply with the new safety norms. The Concept Future S was first displayed at the 2018 Auto Expo. While the 0.8-litre motor bids farewell, the current 1.0-litre petrol engine will be updated to adhere with the upcoming emission norms. This engine will be mated with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed AMT. Moreover, it is expected that the new Alto will come with the 660 cc turbocharged petrol engine that is offered in the Japanese market. This smaller petrol engine comes with a higher fuel economy.
Apart from the necessary powertrain upgrade, the Alto will also receive exterior updates that are inspired by the Concept Future S. The new Alto will look distinctively different from the ongoing model with an bold front look and an SUV-like stance. As suggested by the spy images, the interior of the new Alto will get a round digital instrument cluster. The 2020 Maruti Alto is expected to be priced at Rs. 3.66 lakh.
