Ahead of the BSVI rollout, Maruti Suzuki has got in hands a range of BSVI-compliant models including Alto 800, Ertiga, Swift, Dzire and the newly-introduced S-Presso. Finally, the BSVI-ready Maruti WagonR 1.0-litre petrol variant has been silently launched in India with the price starting from Rs 4.42 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Earlier, Maruti Suzuki also introduced the BSVI-compliant version of the WagonR 1.2-litre petrol variant. To upgrade to the BSVI compliance, the new WagonR 1.0-litre petrol model commands a premium of Rs 8,000 over the BSIV version.

LXi | Rs 4.42 Lakh | Rs 4.34 Lakh | Rs 8,000 |

On the mechanical front, the BSVI WagonR 1.0-litre petrol model is identical to the previous BSIV variant. It continues to use the same 68 PS 998 cc K10B petrol engine option which can be had with either a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT option. The BSVI upgrade has come at the expense of reducing the fuel-efficiency of the model as the ARAI-rated fuel mileage figure has fallen by 0.71 km per litre.

The updated engine now can return a fuel mileage of 21.79 kmpl against the 22.5 kmpl as earlier. Interestingly enough, the fuel economy of the new WagonR is still slightly more than that of the recently-launched Maruti S-Presso which is powered by the same 998 cc K10B gasoline burner.
The WagonR is currently one of the best-selling cars of Maruti Suzuki in India.
Barring the transition to BSVI norms, nothing else has changed in the popular tall-boy hatch. That said, the revised price sticker of the new car will not take any toll on the ever-strong sales performance of the vehicle. Recently, Maruti Suzuki has announced that it has sold over 2 lakh units of BSVI cars within 6 months in India. The share of BSVI cars in the company’s monthly sales has crossed more than 70 per cent and it is working towards the 100 per cent sales in three months. The BSVI-compliant WagonR 1.0 would contribute to that.
