Our exclusive spy images of a production-spec Kia SP2i, which was being tested on Indian roads, have clearly revealed its two-tone machined alloy wheels.

Recently, a carefully camouflaged test mule of the Kia SP2i was spotted testing in New Delhi by our reader Bunny Kalsi. The new pics have been quite successful with giving us a clear look at the 18-inch two-tone machined alloy rims of the new model. Other than this, the production model appears to bear a strong resemblance with the SP Concept, which made its first debut at the Auto Expo 2018.

That said, there exists a disparity between the production model and its concept version. For instance. the Kia SP2i boasts a larger DLO and projector headlamps instead of the all-LED lights in the concept. The other prominent exterior features indicated by the spy images include a bold black grille, projector lamps, roof rails and sleek horizontal LED taillights.

The spy images indicate that the Kia SP2i will get dual-tone machined alloy wheels

With regards to the interior, the Kia SP2i SUV will be replete with a wide array of high-quality features. The expected interior feature list includes a head-up display, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, WIFI and ambient lighting system.

The Kia SP2i will be sold with two engine options, which consist of 1.5L petrol and diesel units. Furthermore, a 1.4L T-GDI turbocharged direct injection petrol motor is being developed particularly for the performance variant of the SUV but it will be available in the Indian market at a later stage. All of the motors will comply with the upcoming BS-VI emission standards.

The Kia SP2i will be powered by three engine options

The Kia SP2i is supported by a revised version of the current Hyundai Creta’s platform. The refined platform will also support the next-gen Hyundai Creta and a seven-seat version of the SP2i, which will be introduced to India if the demand arises.

The South Korean automaker is likely to open bookings for the new Kia SP2i SUV in India by August 2019. Its official launch will take place later, perhaps by October this year. Once launched in India, the Kia SP2i will be priced in the range from INR 12 lakh to INR 16 lakh. At this price range, it will become a direct competitor of other vehicles in the same segment such as the Mahindra XUV500, the Hyundai Creta, the Tata Harrier and the Nissan Kicks. Besides being produced and going on sale in the domestic market, it will also be put on sale in many foreign markets.

The company has also organized a contest for the name of its first vehicle in India. The name with the most votes will become the official name of the SUV. Last seen, the leading choice has been the “Kia Trazor”.
