Having postponed the launch date of the Mahindra Alturus, Mahindra has finally restated the official launch date for the new SUV. The introductory date is set to be on November 24, 2018, instead of November 19 as confirmed earlier. The upcoming Mahindra SUV is expected to replace the ageing SsangYong Rexton SUV and become the next flagship model of Mahindra in the Indian market.

Commenting about the Alturas G4, Veejay Nakra, the Chief of Sales & Marketing from Mahindra and Mahindra has stated to the media,
"The word Alturas means 'height' or 'pinnacle'. The Alturas G4 represents a gateway into luxury for those who have reached the pinnacle of success in their lives. Being our most luxurious offering, exquisitely designed and crafted, we believe that the Alturas G4 name perfectly describes this product."
Giving a special meaning name for its new SUV, Mahindra might set the goal to scale the new heights and fend off the competition with Ford Endeavour, Isuzu MU-X and Toyota Fortuner in the domestic market.

Regard of the design, the upcoming Mahindra Alturas will be based on the latest-gen SsangYong Rexton SUV. The Alturas G4, hence, shares common cues with the Rexton design languages such as the specific grille and a body-on-frame construction. These features have been contributing to the Mahindra family look. Regardless of possessing a family design, the Alturas is claimed to get a fresh new styling and mechanical changes.

In terms of features, the Mahindra's top-spec Alturas is offered with a host of equipment list such as
Large touchscreen system
Sunroof
Napa leather upholstery
Ventilated seats with memory function
Electronic parking brake
LED headlamps and taillights
Alloy wheels
Mahindra Alturas G4 will receive the power via a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine which can produce 183 bhp. As for the petrol engine, regardless of being on offer on the global Rexton version, it is unlikely to be equipped in the India-spec version by the time it launches. While there is no manual gearbox available, the Mahindra Alturas will be featured with a Mercedes-sourced 7-speed automatic gearbox and manual shifting. The SUV will come with a 244mm ground clearance as well as a 5.5m turning circle.

This upcoming SUV will be produced at Chakan facility of Mahindra in Maharashtra. Since Mahindra had earlier stated to price the Mahindra Alturas G4 competitively in the ₹ .30+ lakh range, the SUV is expected to be around ₹ 25 lakh to ₹ 30 lakh (ex-showroom). With this price, it will undercut the Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market.
