Mahindra XUV300 has become the first India-made vehicle to win the Global NCAP’s Safer Choice Award. Winning this award has proved that Mahindra’s compact SUV has achieved a high level of safety.
Mahindra XUV300 is the first car from a home-grown car manufacturer to win this award
Recently, Mahindra XUV300 has gained full-star rating for adult occupant protection and a four-star rating for child occupant protection at the Global NCAP test, earning it the highest occupant safety rating for an India-made vehicle in the history of the Global NCAP. In the adult occupant crash test, the XUV300 has performed an effective chest, head and neck protection for both the driver and the passenger. It also showcased adequate protection for child occupant. However, due to the lack of 3-point seat belt for the rear bench and low-quality ISOFIX markings, the SUV only gained a four-star score for child occupant safety.
Shortly after gaining the highest Global NCAP occupant rating, Mahindra XUV300 was submitted for further inspection. Meeting the requirement regarding the pedestrian protection and Electronic Stability Control standards, the compact SUV is qualified for the Safer Choice Award.
Back in 2018, Global NCAP has initiated the challenge for carmakers in India to win this award. To be eligible for this award, the vehicle must get a full star rating for adult occupant protection and at least four-star score for child occupant protection. Moreover, it must feature the Electronic Stability Control as well as conform to the pedestrian protection requirements.
Mahindra XUV300's win marks a turning point in safety performance for the Indian automobile industry
Commenting on the Mahindra XUV300’s winning of Safer Choice Award, David Ward, President of Global NCAP, remarked it as a milestone for both Mahindra and the Indian automobile industry. He also stated that this will mark the turning point in vehicle safety performance for the Indian car industry. Mahindra XUV300 is available with the standard safety kit of dual-front airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchor and ABS with EBD. The higher variant is equipped with features like ESC and up to 7 airbags.
