Tata Motors is currently planning to expand the existing car line-up with a range of new products in the coming years. The automaker has also planned to upgrade its existing models, including the Altroz and Harrier. Both the cars will soon get updated with a new turbocharged gasoline motor. Recently, a test mule of Tata Tiago, apparently, kitted out with a turbo petrol engine, was spied testing by Bosch engineers in Bangalore. This clearly means that the entry-level car in Tata’s portfolio will also be offered with a more potent petrol engine.

The powertrain details of the upcoming Tiago turbo petrol are still under covers, but it is expected to be offered with a 1.2-litre, three-pot petrol unit. The power plant could be tuned for shredding out 99bhp of peak power and 141 Nm of twisting force. The recently spotted test car was equipped with a manual transmission. Right now, the hatchback derives power from a BS6-compliant, 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated 3-pot petrol motor that produces 86bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed MT or an AMT. In terms of looks, the new Tata Tiago turbo petrol looks similar to that of the facelift model of the hatchback that was introduced early this year. The front fascia of the facelift model gets a new grille, revised bumper, air dam, slimmer headlights underlined by Tata’s signature ‘Humanity Line’ in chrome. The fog lamp cluster of the hatchback has also been revised and is positioned further up in the bumper.
