The Japanese automaker is ready to introduce an all-new compact SUV named the Toyota Rise in Japan next month. Being a five-seater sub-four-metre compact SUV, the Rise will bear a strong resemblance to the Daihatsu Rocky. Actually, the vehicle is the production model of the Daihatsu DN Trec Concept which made its debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

The Toyota Rise will not be merely the rebadged version of the Daihatsu Rocky; instead, they will have differences in terms of the exterior, which are typical of each company’s design philosophy. Nevertheless, with a view to aggressively price the SUV, Toyota has carried over many components, interior features and powertrain from the Rocky to the Rise.
The Toyota Rise will come with its own identity in terms of the exterior design.
The rendering above takes the inspiration from the Toyota Corolla which has been sold globally and shows how the Rise could look. The vehicle comes with a rakish windshield, angular headlights with LED DRLs, small upper grille and sharp lower grille in the front; chrome door handles, window line, black B-pillars, machined wheels, masculine black cladding on the side profile; horizontal LED taillights, chrome boot applique, rear skid plate in the rear and a higher ground clearance as it will rival the Suzuki Jimny in off-roading capabilities.
The Toyota Rise will be available with both 2WD and 4WD systems.
The Toyota Rise will be available with both 2WD and 4WD systems with the latter on the high-spec trims making way for off-roading characteristics and electronic driver assistance. Underpinned by the Daihatsu’s New Global Architecture (DNGA), the Toyota Rise is expected to keep under its hood a 1.0-litre 3-cyl gasoline burner which will come mated to both MT and AT gearboxes.

The Toyota Rise will be revealed in Japan in November before its global official launch. If it is launched in the Indian auto market, the compact SUV is expected to compete against other popular models in the same segment like the Hyundai Venue, the Maruti Vitara Brezza, the Tata Nexon, the Ford EcoSport, etc. But before this, some more immediate models to be launched under Toyota and Maruti Suzuki include the rebadged Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, Ciaz and a Toyota C-segment MPV.
