How quick is the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe off the line? Well, here are the results of our 0-100 kmph run on the BMW's latest offering in the Indian market.

BMW’s newest entrant in the Indian market is the 2 Series Gran Coupe. It is also the chicest one of the lot. The superlatives for this BMW just don’t end up here, as it is also the cheapest diesel Beemer in the country. The prices for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe start at Rs. 39.30 lakh. It is currently on sale with a diesel engine only. The oil burner is a 4-cylinder turbocharged unit and produces 190 Hp against 400 Nm. It comes coupled to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. All of these mechanical aids help the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe accelerate to the 100 kmph mark from a standstill in just 7.5 seconds. At least, BMW claims so. To see if this affordable BMW packs in some punch, we thought of putting it to the test.

With cameras fixed, engine warmed up, seat belts in place,  a strong prod to the pedal was made. With some controlled wheel spin, the 2 Series Gran Coupe accelerated to the 100 kmph from a standstill in just 8.40 seconds. In the second attempt, it took 8.43 seconds to show the 100 kmph mark. In the third and final attempt, this small Beemer took only 7.95 seconds to sprint to 100 kmph mark on the speedo. While the Gran Coupe could not do 0-100 kmph run in the claimed 7.5 seconds duration, it certainly packs in a lot of performance to make you smile. Also, we believe that the increased load of an extra occupant, some camera gear, and climate control working in the background, the car took a few milliseconds extra.

Although, it was in Sport mode and DSC was turned off during the test runs. The 2 Series Gran Coupe is offered with a 1.5L turbo-petrol motor as well but in the international markets only. The 1500 cc 3-pot petrol motor is good at pushing out a rated power output of 140 PS and peak torque of 220 Nm. For those who need more power, BMW offers a 2.0L turbo-petrol too, which can produce a peak power output of 306 PS and max torque of 450 Nm.
