Chinese-Made Copycat Cars: From Land Cruiser To Lamborghini Urus

Below is a list of five made-in-China cars which are the copycats of popular models all over the world.

Being the largest auto markets in the world, the Chinese auto market has numerous car models on offer for the Indian auto buyers. This car market has also witnessed the introduction of the cars with the most unique design. There are even Chinese-made copycat cars of popular car models around the world. Below is a list of such five cars; read on to discover.

Hengtian Yueli - Toyota Land Cruiser

Spotted for the first time in China in 2016, the Hengtian Yueli is still on sale in the Chinese auto market. The Chinese vehicle bears a strong resemblance to Toyota Land Cruiser in many aspects. Some of the easy-to-notice similar features between the two vehicles include the front independent suspension and the rear four-link suspension with coil springs. The general shape and many other details of the two SUVs, especially on the side profile, look nearly identical to each other. However, at least, the Chinese auto manufacturer altered the headlamps and the grille to make its vehicle different from the Japanese counterpart.

Under the hood of the two vehicles are two different sets of engines. While the Yueli is powered by a Chinese-made 4.6-litre V8 petrol motor with 286 HP, the Toyota Land Cruiser receives its power from a 4.5-litre V8 diesel unit with 265 HP. Being a highly popular SUV not just in India but also around the world, the Toyota Land Cruiser is quite expensive. Offering a much lower price range, the Hengtian Yueli allows those who desire for a Land Cruiser but are short of money.

The Hengtian Yueli appears to bear great similarities to the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Shenqi F70 - Ford F150

Well-known for its impressive capabilities, the Ford 150 looks extremely aggressive with a large road presence. The highly-capable full-size pickup truck runs the risk of being copied by other lower-priced vehicles among which is the Chinese-made Shenqi F70.

Launched at the end of 2018, the Ford F150’s knockoff bears a strong resemblance to the Ford F150 in many aspects in terms of design. The Chinese truck keeps under its hood a powerful Isuzu-sourced 2.8-litre motor. It also comes with an FWD system.

The Shenqi F70 is known to be a copy cat of the highly-capable Ford 150.

Xpeng G3 - Tesla Model X

Having a deep interest in electric vehicles, China witnesses a new electric vehicle introduced to the market almost every day. But, are they really new? We need to reconsider, especially for such a market which is well-known for copycat cars like China.

Here, we want to mention the Xpeng G3, an electric SUV which bears a strong resemblance to the famous Tesla Model X, one of the best electric SUVs in the world with impressive acceleration and self-drive capabilities though it is not 100% copy. Both of the SUVs lack the traditional front grille and similarly-shaped headlamps and both feature a grooved clamshell bonnet; nevertheless, most of the G3’s exterior design is unique.

However, the interior is a totally different case with the G3 coming with numerous identical features to the Tesla EV. These include the large vertical touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard, the digital gauge cluster and the steering wheel.

The Xpeng G3 is greatly identical to the Tesla Model X.

Lifan 330 - Mini Cooper

Mini Cooper is an extremely popular hatchback all over the world, especially among the youngsters, thanks to its wide range of shapes and sizes, powertrains and an AWD system. Popular as it might be, the Mini Cooper is never an affordable vehicle. First introduced in 2008 with a much lower price than the Mini Cooper, the Lifan 320 received a facelift to become the Lifan 330 and keep up with the original Mini Cooper’s design evolution.

The front of the Lifan 330 also bears some similarities to the Fiat 500. The Chinese hatchback receives its power from a 1.3-litre gasoline burner which can deliver 90 PS and is mated to a 5-speed MT unit.

The Lifan 330 is a knockoff of the Mini Cooper.

C60 Hyosow - Lamborghini Urus

The first-ever modern SUV from Lamborghini, the Urus, has become an extremely popular all over the world. To offer an “affordable alternative” to this premium SUV, Hyosow, which is owned by BAIC, launched the C60, which is a copycat of the Lamborghini Urus. The price of the former is only a fraction of the latter. The C60 Hyosow keeps under its hood a 2.0-litre gasoline burner which can generate a 195 PS.

The C60 Hyosow bears a strong resemblance to the Lamborghini Urus.
