First-gen Honda City was launched in the country in 1998 and was on sale till 2003. However, it was only in the year 2000 that City got itself the much-loved V-TEC mechanism. The first-gen City was a low-slung 3-box sedan. With a low centre of gravity and mass, it was a handler. And, with the 1.5L 4-cylinder motor, which boasted of the V-TEC mechanics at a later stage, City was and is still fancied around by the enthusiasts. A lot of them can still be seen shod with bigger mag wheels, louder pipes, free-flow intakes and more. They can be spotted at every race event of the country, be it a drag racing event or a tourist class circuit racing championship.
10 Features of All-new Honda City NOT AVAILABLE on Maruti Ciaz
Here’s one that we came across, and it is in its pristine condition. Also, it is kitted-up to a fair extent. The car in the pictures belongs to Muhammed Anas, who hails from mod’s own country – Kerela. To start with the car gets itself a set of 17-inch 7.5-J 5-spoke Lenso wheels that are wrapped in 205/45 section rubber. This way it gets a larger and stickier footprint on the tarmac. A pop-up type sunroof sourced from Webasto has also been installed on this City. It has been lowered with the use of tighter springs to improve the overall dynamics of the car.
New-Gen Honda City Petrol Is MORE POWERFUL Than Even Hyundai Verna 1.0 Turbo
Talking about what’s souped under the hood, it now gets an aftermarket K&N air filter to inhale denser air. To exhale the burnt charge easily, it gets rally-spec custom headers, which are then connected to an aftermarket free-flow exhaust muffler. We are not aware of what are the power outputs this particular car puts out. However, the City in its stock avatar was not a boring car at all. The 4-cylinder 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol motor was capable of belting out a peak power output of over 100 horses. Talking of the gearbox, it came mated to a 5-speed stick shift transmission.
