Just a few months back, Hyundai introduced the new “clutchless manual transmission” dubbed the iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) to its Venue in the Indian market. Having said, the Hyundai Venue 120 PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is now offered with a 6-speed iMT in addition to a 6-speed MT and a 7-speed DCT option. Is the Venue iMT getting any bettern than its manual and DCT counterparts? Let's find out in our Hyundai Venue iMT vs MT vs DCT comparison.
While the manual gearbox often gives away the fun-to-drive experience, the DCT offers the pure convenience especially for the bumper-and-go traffic. How about the new iMT? The recently-introduced iMT, on the other hand, enables you shift the gear manually while you can enjoy the free left leg with the supports from some sensors and actuators.
It comes as a surprise that the Hyundai Venue iMT is the fastest model on the 0 – 100 kmph acceleration run, followed by the manual variant and DCT, respectively. The Hyundai Venue DCT is the slowest model of the lot as the gearbox didn’t help roll out a quick launch with the revs held at 2,500 rpm. What works in favour of the DCT-equipped Venue is that the transmission drops gear quickly while power is served up speedily during the roll-on acceleration.
Hyundai Venue iMT - First-ever Video Review
When it comes to the fuel efficiency, the Hyundai Venue iMT stays almost on par with the MT variant. The ARAI-rated fuel mileage figure of the Venue MT is at 18.27 kmpl which can be reduced to around 15 kmpl in real world. The Venue iMT is just about 0.4 kmpl less fuel efficient than the regular manual version. Certainly, the Venue petrol - DCT will be the least efficient of the lot. The ARAI-certified mileage figure of the model is at 18.15 kmpl.

It is true that the Hyundai Venue iMT is in the sweet spot compared to the manual and automatic counterparts. It can return quite the same performance as the manual sibling while being more fuel efficient than the DCT version, not to mention the relatively attractive price tags. The price of the Hyundai Venue iMT is from Rs 9.99 lakhs to Rs 11.21 lakhs.
