Mahindra Scorpio is currently the only mid-size ladder-frame SUV on sale below Rs. 20.00 lakh mark. It is quite a popular offering from the Indian carmaker. In its current avatar, Scorpio misses out on a lot of modern-day equipment that smaller SUVs like Hyundai Creta and MG Hector come with. One of these features is the sunroof. Interestingly, Creta and Hector get a panoramic sunroof, instead. But, one can always fix one via the aftermarket route. Many would say that Scorpio has a stepped roof and thus a sunroof cannot be fitted on the SUV. To put all these weird concoctions of thoughts aside, here’s a modified Mahindra Scorpio that gets a full-size panoramic sunroof.
Old-gen Mahindra Scorpio Transformed Into 2020 Model
This modification job has been performed by the folks at Big Daddy Modifiers, who are based out of Jalandhar, Ludhiana. The tuner has managed to fit a single piece of glass in Scorpio’s roof, which also goes with the stepped design of the roof. This glass piece is stepped in the middle. It is a fixed sunroof like seen in the expensive Range Rover cars. The cost of this modification is not yet known. In the pictures, it can be seen that the glass piece is so massive that this Scorpio hardly has any roof over the cabin now.
Also, it lets a lot of light enter the cabin. On the contrary, this affects the effectiveness of the car’s air-conditioning system. Such modifications come with a lot of downsides. Since a major chunk of the roof is chopped off to fit the sunroof, the structural rigidity of the car takes a toll. Since glass is heavier than the metal, it increases the car’s centre of mass from the ground. Also, a car with aftermarket sunroof is prone to leakage issues in the long run. Thus, it is advisable to consult the modifier on these notes before proceeding with the modification job.
5 Mahindra Scorpio SUVs That Look Batshit Crazy with 22-inchers
In the BS-6 regime, Mahindra Scorpio is offered with a 2.2L mHawk diesel engine only. The 4-cylinder turbocharged oil burner with common rail injection is capable of belting out a peak power output of 140 PS and max torque of 320 Nm. The transmission duties are performed by a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Scorpio is underpinned by a ladder-frame chassis, which uses an independent front suspension with dual-wishbones and coil-overs at the front and a solid axle at the rear.
