Tata Motors, the popular home-grown auto manufacturer is expected to launch five new cars in the Indian auto market within this fiscal. The company has officially announced that the HBX compact SUV and the Gravitas 7-seater SUV will be launched in FY2021. While the HBX micro SUV is slated for launch at the end of 2020 or at the beginning of 2021, the Gravitas is expected to be launched during the Diwali season. Besides, the Tata Altroz Turbo, Altroz EV and Harrier Petrol are also expected to be launched in this fiscal year. Read on to know more.
The Tata Gravitas has been showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and is expected to be launched in the Indian auto market first half of FY2021. Being a 7-seater version of the Tata Harrier, the Gravitas will also be powered by a BS6 2.0-litre diesel motor which generates 170 PS against 350 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT. The Gravitas will borrow many features from its donor vehicle: an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 9-speaker JBL sound unit, automatic climate control, auto cruise, a coloured multi-info screen, etc. In the safety front, the SUV comes with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, a rearview camera, hill start assist, hill mode descent control and dynamic stability control. The Tata Gravitas is anticipated to be priced at around INR 14 lakh (ex-showroom) and compete against the Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming 6-seater MG Hector.

Along with the Tata Gravitas, the Tata HBX mirco SUV has also been revealed at the Auto Expo 2020. The Tata HBX is expected to receive its power from a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre 3-cyl Revotron gasoline burner which is good for 86 PS against 113 Nm. The transmission duties will be undertaken by a 5-speed MT or an optional AMT. The diesel version is unlikely to be introduced. The HBX will be replete with a wide range of top-notch features, some of the most outstanding of which include a 7-inch infotainment system, a compass on the dashboard, steering-mounted audio and calling controls. The SUV is slated for launch by the end of 2020 and is likely to be priced at about INR 5 lakh. It is going to compete against the Maruti Ignis and Mahindra KUV100.
Tata HBX To Borrow Electric Powertrain From Nexon Electric
The Tata Altroz turbo petrol will be launched in the second half of this year. This vehicle will receive its power from a 1.2-litre turbo three-cyl motor which can deliver 102 PS against 141 Nm and is mated to a 5-speed MT. The home-grown automaker offers the Altroz naturally aspirated petrol and turbo diesel in XE, XM, XT and XZ(O) variants. Therefore, the turbo petrol version of the Tata Altroz is likely to be offered in the top-spec XZ and XZ(O) trims and may be priced at about INR 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Tata Altroz EV is another vehicle that has been showcased at Auto Expo 2020. The electric vehicle is expected to be introduced by late 2020 at around INR 15 lakh. At this price range, it will compete against the Mahindra XUV300 EV and the Tata Nexon EV. It is expected to come with a battery pack with a capacity of nearly 30kWh which is able to offer a travel range of 300 km per charge. The Altroz EV will be packed with a semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic air conditioner and connected car technologies, etc. Once launched, the Altroz EV will be the only premium electric hatchback to be available in the Indian auto market.
Tata Altroz EV Launch Later This Year
The Tata Harrier Petrol is the last upcoming offering from the home-grown automaker in our list today. The Tata Harrier is a decent success for Tata, thanks to its attractive appearance, top-notch features right from the base variant and a powerful motor. Nevertheless, it has come as a disappointment for the Indian auto customers for the lack of a petrol motor. The long-awaited Tata Harrier petrol will finally be launched in this fiscal year and come with Tata’s new 1.5-litre direct-injection gasoline burner which is a four-cyl version of the 1.2-litre Revotron turbo mill which serves as the power source for the Tata Nexon. This motor can generate up to 152 PS.
