Speaking of the styling changes, the BSVI 2020 Tata Tiago facelift gets an updated façade as per the company’s Impact 2.0 design theme. The front-end carries a new bumper that looks a tad bolder than before, while even the grille and the headlamps have been updated. The bumper also houses a set of DRLs that sit in the fog-lamps housings. The rear bumper is new, too, and even the hood has been revised to help the small car comply with the stringent safety norms. The new Tiago is on sale in 6 colour options:

Even the interior of the 2020 Tata Tiago facelift has seen some changes. It comes with a new three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel that offers audio and telephone controls on the high-end trims. Also, the conventional analogue dials of the previous version have made way for an all-digital instrument cluster that looks pretty snazzy. Also, the cabin comes kitted out with chrome-plated door handles and colour-coded trim on the aircon vents surrounds.

Also, it must be noted here that the 2020 Tata Tiago facelift is a tad safer than the model it replaces. The new model has bagged a 4-star rating in Global NCAP, which is largely due to the sheet metal changes made to the front-end. Akin to the previous version, the Tiago facelift offers dual airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) and EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), along with CSC (Cornering Stability Control).
Speaking of the features on offer, the 2020 Tata Tiago facelift no longer offers projector headlamps that were earlier available on the top-end XZ-spec model. However, it continues to be sold with 15-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, all-four power windows, central locking and a four-speaker-and-four-tweeter audio setup.

SubscribeFinally, let’s come to the meat of the matter. The 2020 Tata Tiago facelift is on sale only with a BSVI-compliant engine. Powering the 2020 Tata Tiago facelift is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that provides a maximum power of 84 PS and a peak torque of 114 Nm. Like before, there are two transmission options on offer- a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. Like before, the Tiago will lock horns with the Hyundai Santro and Maruti Celerio. From our newTata Tiago facelift vs old model comparison, it’s pretty clear that the new model holds an edge over the version it has replaced.

Engine Type | 1.2-litre 3-cylinder | 1.2-litre 3-cylinder |

Unlike the pre-facelift version, there’s no option of opting for a diesel variant, which is something that might upset those with a really high usage. However, given the huge investment required for updating the BSIV-compliant oil-burner, Tata has decided to discontinue its smallest diesel motor owing to the steep bump in the pricing. With the fast dwindling demand for diesel-powered small cars, it doesn’t look like the discontinuation of the diesel engine option would hurt the popularity of the most affordable Tata Motors’ offering in the country.

Prices of the BSVI 2020 Tata Tiago facelift start at Rs 4.60 lakh (ex-showroom), which is up to Rs 20,000 more than what the previous version commanded. Also, it must be noted here that with the introduction of the facelift, the Tiago will be available only with a petrol engine option.

As evident from the comparison above, we can clearly see that the new Tiago facelift is a step up, not only in terms of design, but equipment and safety as well. The lack of a diesel engine option is certainly a downer, but considering the costs, the company seems to have taken a safer approach. Who knows though, maybe Tata would add a diesel engine soon, perhaps borrowed from Fiat (like the company did for the Harrier). Regardless, the facelifted model is a definite upgrade over the outgoing model, and if you were planning to buy a Tiago, you have even more reason to do so.
