Skoda showcased the Vision-IN concept in February 2020. It was presented alongside the Volkswagen Taigun concept. Both these cars are the design studies of these brands as a part of their India 2.0 strategy. Both these models will spawn India-specific SUVs that will be underpinned by the highly awaited MQB-A0-IN architecture. The Czech carmaker has also registered for the ‘Kliq’ trademark, which is expected to be the name of the production version of the concept. It will be the carmaker’s trump card in the C-SUV space, which is currently dominated by Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.
To a large extent, the Skoda Kliq should mimic the Earupean-spec Kamiq in terms of its styling.
No Delay in Launch of Upcoming Skoda SUVs
The Vision-IN concept borrows a lot of cosmetic elements for the exterior and the interior from the European-spec Skoda Kamiq. The Kliq will also continue with the same design cues and will sport an aggressive design theme. It will be placed in the Indian market as a C-segment SUV priced close to the Rapid. It will boast of a high ground clearance, split headlamps, chiselled bumpers, and a high set bonnet, all of which should give it a distinct appeal. As brining the Kamiq to India didn't make much sense owing to its sophisticated platform, the Czech carmaker will instead launch the production model of the Vision IN to tap the highly lucrative C-SUV market.
Like we said, the Skoda Kliq will also use the MQB-A0-IN architecture, which is, basically, a low-cost derivative of the MQB platform. It is expected to come with 2 engine options – 1.0L TSI and 1.5L TSI EVO. The former is a 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with an expected peak power and torque output of 110 PS and 175 Nm, respectively. The bigger 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is expected to produce a peak power output of 150 PS and a max. torque of 250 Nm. The latter should make the production-spec Vision-IN the most potent model in its segment.
Here’s a Skoda Octavia That’s More Powerful Than a Ford Mustang
Going by the interior of the Skoda Vision-IN concept, the Kliq could have a rather futuristic cabin with colour-coordinate trim.
The transmission options expected to be offered with the Kliq are a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG. However, the option of AWD will not be on the cards as Skoda plans to follow the segment trend. The upcoming model is expected to be launched by the second quarter of 2021 at a starting price of a little lesser than Rs. 10 lakh. Once launched, it will be pitted against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Kia Seltos, and even the production-spec VW Taigun.
