Recently, Skoda has launched the new BSVI Rapid 1.0-litre TSI which has gained significant recognition for being the cheapest sedan in the market to offer a turbocharged petrol engine. The Skoda Rapid is currently offered with one choice of powertrain which is a 1.0-litre TSI engine together with a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, it has been confirmed by Zac Hollis, Marketing Director of Skoda India, that Skoda will launch the automatic gearbox option on the Rapid 1.0L TSI this September.

The launch date of the Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI AT was revealed via a user query on Facebook. When answering a question regarding the launch date of the new automatic Rapid 1.0 TSI, Hollis replied, “In September we will launch the automatic version of the new Rapid TSI. It’s a torque converter box. More details nearer the time.”

Powering the Skoda Rapid is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol TSI engine which generates a top power of 108 Bhp and a maximum torque of 175 Nm. Along with the current 6-speed manual gearbox, this engine will come with a new transmission option of a torque converter automatic transmission. It is expected that the new automatic unit will be the 6-speed torque converter gearbox used on the Volkswagen Vento 1.0L TSI.
In terms of comfort and convenience, the Skoda Rapid is a well-equipped sedan which is available with a host of upmarket features. For the exterior, the car gets electric ORVMs, LED projector headlight with integrated LED DRLs, and trunk spoiler, and black-out roof. On the inside, Skoda Rapid comes with 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, cruise control, flat-bottom steering wheel, automatic AC, control-mounted steering wheels, leather upholstery to name a few. In addition, the compact sedan also features some safety feature like rear parking sensor with camera, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control and Hill hold control.

The current line-up of the Skoda Rapid includes five variants, namely, Rider, Ambition, Onyx, Style, and Monte Carlo. The price range of the Rapid starts from Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom) on the Rider and goes up to Rs 11.79 lakh on the top-spec Monte Carlo. Until now, there is no information regarding what variants will receive the automatic transmission option.
