Normally, it takes Volvo less than six months after the global launch to introduce a new model to our market. But this time around, it would demand longer than usual to bring it to India. The belated Indian launch is due to a change in manufacturing location. While the previous version was all built in Torslanda plant in Sweden, the third models will be now produced at the Charleston plant, the USA which went into operation just around the same time with the car’s international debut. As a result, it will take more time to adapt and kick off the manufacturing of India-spec models.
Volvo S60 will be kicked off in India market by 2020
The Managing Director of Volvo Cars India, Charles Frump, has confirmed the expected launch to come next year. He also details why it takes them so long to refresh the Volvo S60. “It’s a new plant for us, the Rupee-Dollar equation is not doing great for us, so we want to make sure that we make a good business case and be able to have a good value proposition for customers.”
On the third-gen S60, we will see the exclusion of the diesel variant. It marks the first time that a Volvo-branded model to come without the oil burner option. On the other hands, S60 will be added with a plug-in hybrid system. This powertrain comes into two versions, T6 and T8.
At launch, this car is expected to be priced from INR 45 lakh. Right now, Volvo has just opened its new service centre in Chennai.
