Volvo XC40 Won The Premium Car Of The Year

The ICOTY has awarded the Volvo XC40 as the Premium Car of the Year over other impressive luxury vehicles.

Based on the experts and independent judgment of the best new car, the ICOTY has been the most coveted award of the Indian automotive fraternity. This year, the committee added a new award category to honour the best premium car in India, turning over a new leaf in its prestigious history. The all-new Premium car award category works on the luxurious premium high-performance cars positioned of Rs 40 Lakh onward that includes both locally-built and imported vehicles.

The Volvo XC40 is the first-ever automobile to win the Award this year. The compact crossover has been put into the tough consideration with other bitter rivals including the attractive Volvo XC60, the desirable Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 S, Audi Q5, BMW X3, BMW 6-Series and more.

Thanks to the feature-rich driving packages, striking driving performance and the competitive pricing range, the XC40 made its victory in the nail-biting contest with the segment leader, BMW X1 and other strong competitors. The SUV is made available with the premium black upholstery, 9-inch Sensus System with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, 13-speaker Harman and Kardon sound system, Wireless charging pad and virtual instrument cluster.

Powering the XC40 is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine which is good for 187 bhp and 400 Nm of torque figure. The motor is mated to an 8-step automatic transmission, marking the perfect on-and-off-road SUV in any terrains and driving weather. The XC 40 is positioned at Rs 46.66 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) to take on the likes of BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

The members of this year ICOTY jury encompass some experienced and prestigious experts and journalists like Yogendra Pratap and Rahul Ghosh from Auto Today, Hani Musthafa from Flywheel, Pablo Chaterji from Mans's World and others from AutoX, Car India, Evo India, Motoring World, Overdrive, The Hindu Business Line, Top Gear India and Carwale.

On behalf of the ICOTY committee, the award was presented by Dr Ragphupati Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director of JF Tyre & Industries Limited. Mr Charles Frump, Managing Director of Volvo Auto India represents Volvo to receive the award with the winner’s certificate with all signs of the esteemed ICOTY jury members.
