The slow-selling Yaris might be ruled out of the current portfolio of Toyota in India. In place of this sedan, Toyota will launch its version of the Ciaz.

Toyota is turning to the new page with the highly-expected collaboration with Maruti Suzuki. An array of new and exchanged vehicles will be introduced under this partnership. As reported before, Maruti will allow Toyota to develop a rebadged version based on Maruti Ciaz. Toyota-badged Ciaz will be launched in both India and the African market along with the Toyota’s Ertiga.

Reborn under Toyota’s badge, the Ciaz will come with some design updates to create its own identity. Apart from this, this sedan is also rumoured to replace the less popular Yaris.

Toyota Yaris could not live up to the initial expectation, seizing the poor sale of 350 units in February

Toyota Yaris was just launched last year in April. Despite garnering considerable attention at the beginning, the Yaris has miserably failed in terms of sales. The sale has dropped to only 350 units in February this year, which has ringed the alarm for Toyota about the fate of this sedan.

On the other hand, Maruti Ciaz has successfully remained as the segment-leading models in the premium sedan space with the sales of 3,084 units in February. According to the plan, Maruti will provide a number of Ciaz for Toyota for rebadging. The entrance of such a strong sedan model might pose a serious threat to the slow-selling Yaris. In other words, Toyota might put an end to the ill-fated Yaris and replace it by their version of the Ciaz.

A Toyota-badged Ciaz is rumoured to take the place of the poor-selling Yaris

Apart from the rebadged Ciaz, under the new partnership, other models are also confirmed to undergo the exchanging process. In the nearest future, Toyota-badged Baleno will be the first models under this alliance to go on sale. Also, a number of Maruti Vitar Brezza will be transformed into Toyota’s model in 2022.

On the other hand, Maruti will be supplied with Corolla Altis. In the global stage, the European market, in particular, Suzuki will be provided with the RAV4 and Corolla Estate. A new C-segment MPV will be developed under the Toyota and Maruti Suzuki’s partnership. It will be available at both carmakers’ dealership.

The two companies also put a strong focus on exchanging knowledge and technology. From Maruti’s part, they will provide a number of engines for Toyota. In return, Toyota will offer hybrid systems for Suzuki.
