Hyundai is all prepped up to launch the 3rd-gen i20 in the country by September this year. The car has been already unveiled and it looks gorgeous from every angle. However, it has been unveiled in its European avatar. The Indian version of the car is going to be a wee bit different. Thankfully, the changes it will sport will hardly affect the way it looks. Increased ride height and a trimmed rear bumper will be the only changes that Hyundai will make to the India-spec Elite i20. Since the Europe-spec car measures 4,040 mm in length, Hyundai will trim down those extra 40 millimetres to fit the Elite i20 in sub-4m hatchback space. This way, Hyundai will be able to price it aggressively by saving a little on the taxes.

The ride height of the car will be increased to give it some extra ground clearance. With increased ride height, the car’s overall height will also be increased by a fair margin, which, on the European model, is capped at 1,450mm. But the wheelbase of the India-spec car will be kept identical as its European counterpart.
The newly-unveiled i20 is loaded to the gills. It comes equipped with two 10.25-inch displays- One for the instrument console, while another for the infotainment screen. They are mounted in unibody housing, which gives the cockpit an upmarket look. However, it is highly unlikely that the Indian version will feature the 10.25-inch digital display for the instrument console, at least in the lower variants.

The Indian version of the 3rd-gen Elite i20 will be shorter in length and will get a higher ground clearance than its Euorpean counterpart.
The new-gen Elite i20 is expected to be launched with 3 engine options – 1.2L Kappa petrol, 1.5L turbocharged diesel, and a 1.0L turbocharged petrol. The 83 PS 1.2L Kappa motor will be a direct lift from the outgoing model. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The turbocharged petrol and diesel engines will be borrowed from the Venue. They will be tuned differently to belt out a peak power output of 100 PS. The turbo-petrol motor is likely to be offered with 2 transmission options - 6-speed MT and 7-speed DCT. The diesel engine, on the other hand, will come mated to a 6-speed MT only.
