Mahindra launched the all-new Thar in the country on October 2 at a starting price of Rs. 9.80 lakh. However, the very first unit of the off-roader was auctioned to raise funds for charity, and Mr Aakash Minda won the auction with a winning bid of Rs. 1.1 Crore. But, where this Thar is now, is a question that was constantly hitting our minds. Interestingly, the first and the most-expensive Thar ever sold is up for some great modifications. It is currently in possession of folks at Bimbra 4x4, who are quite famous for their skills of modifying 4x4 SUVs. Recently, Taran Bimbra, owner of the tuning house, posted the pictures of this Thar on a social media platform.
In the images, different tyres can be seen lying around the Thar. The tuning house is trying out two profiles of BF Goodrich KO2 tyres – 265-section and 285-section. Since the tuner is claiming to check the clearance with these tyres before taking a final call, it is well-understood; the tyre upgrade is planned without a lift kit. Moreover, the folks at Bimbra 4x4 are developing custom bumpers, fenders, wheel arches, and radiator grilles for the new-gen Thar.
Delay in Deliveries of New Mahindra Thar - Buyers Disappointed
This particular Thar is the top-spec petrol-automatic variant. It sources power from a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged motor that develops a peak power output of 150 HP and max torque of 320 Nm. Transmission duties are performed by an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic gearbox here. However, a 6-speed manual gearbox is also available as an option. Furthermore, the all-new Thar can be had with a 2.2L oil burner as well. It is a 4-cylinder unit and churns out a peak power output of 130 Hp and 300 Nm of max torque. Gearbox options for the diesel engine remain the same as its petrol counterpart.
Mahindra is also offering the Thar with a 4x4 transfer case as a standard fitment across the range along with a low-ratio gearbox and mechanically-locking rear differential. The top-spec trims, on the other hand, come with the brake-locking front axle. The ground clearance for the Thar stands at 226 mm, whereas it boasts of an approach and departure angle of 41.8-degrees and 36.8-degrees, respectively.
