The Kia Seltos launch lined up for next month has turned up the heats on their opponents in the compact SUV segment. Set to come this August, the Kia Seltos will be yet another connected SUV to enter India this calendar year. IndianAuto has already told you almost all things to know about the Kia Seltos and true, it seems really promising at the first glimpse. Whereas, the Hyundai Creta has been a roaring success since its first launch in India back in 2015. It has topped on the SUV sales charts from month to month and not even witnessed a dip in sales despite the price increments and several model launches.
However, if there is one model that could pose a major threat to the Hyundai Creta’s popularity in the Indian market, it should be the upcoming Kia Seltos. As you’ve already known, Hyundai and Kia are more like sisters with healthy rivalry in the markets they are operating in.
The new Kia Seltos seems to have everything on point to pit against its competitors. It is developed on a new platform and comes up with new engines that will be found on the new-gen 2020 Hyundai Creta as well. That said, the Seltos has a lot riding on its hands, but will it be able to dethrone its own cousin Hyundai Creta in the playground? Let’s dig deeper into the matter in our Kia Seltos Vs Hyundai Creta comparison.

The Kia Seltos measures the overall length of 4,315 mm, width of 1,800 mm and height of 1,620 mm. Size-wise, then, the Kia Seltos gets a larger footprint than the Hyundai Creta since it is 45 mm longer and 20 mm wider than the latter counterpart. However, the Seltos isn’t quite as high as the Creta which stands at the height of 1665 mm. Of course, greater dimensions will translate into roomier space inside the cabin. As such, the Kia Seltos gets a larger boot space of 433 litres that totally trumps the Creta’s 405-litres boot lid. Despite this, both the top-spec variants of the Seltos and Creta get a similar 190 mm ground clearance and run on the same set of 215/60-section tyres.

Following its unveiling on June 20, 2019, the Kia Seltos has been the talk of the town, especially for the premium distinctive cosmetic beauty it has. Being the first product by Kia in India, the Seltos did receive high expectation from the Indian car freaks and finally, the new SUV did not let them down indeed. The SUV scores well on its appearance, and design is truly what makes it stand out from the crowd.

The Seltos SUV sports quite a whole bunch of cosmetic identities compared to other SUVs including the Creta sibling. It gets a sharp-looking LED headlamps with daytime running lights stretching across the front grille along with ice cube LED fog lamps and 3D-effect multilayer turn signals that look really nice, to say the least. The heartbeat-effect LED tail lamps and dual exhaust system looks stunning and the same goes for the 17-inch machine-cut dual-tone alloy wheels, shark fin antenna and roof rails. The icing on the cake should be at Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille which looks a lot nicer than the Creta’s cascading unit. The rear end of the car looks clean but premium and the aggressive bumper has topped the cake up.
Though being the sister brands of each other, the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta bear no resemblance in terms of the exterior styling whatsoever. While the younger boy points out the sense of sportiness and aggression, the Hyundai Creta tilts at the elegance and smoothness. Certainly, there must be some things behind the Creta’s success and a part of it should be its styling. The Hyundai Creta utilizes a cascading grille that looks fairly prominent on the front facade. The Creta sets itself apart from its adversaries with the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, tough-looking rear bumper, split LED tail lamps among others. It also gets the same wheel size as the Seltos SUV but in a different style. The Creta is available with seven single-tone colour options and two dual-tone paint shades while the Seltos looks far better with 8 single-tone colours and 5 dual-tone paint shades.
Quite obviously then, the Kia Seltos looks more premium than the Hyundai Creta in terms of styles and design. The car is really eye-catching and modern compared to its cousin. We hope that Hyundai will spice up things in the upcoming new-gen Creta to gain the ground over the new Kia SUV

The Hyundai Creta has a bucketful of features, some of them are first in class such as wireless charging system or electrical driver’s seat. Nevertheless, the upcoming Kia Seltos seems to dial up the heat around the competition when talking about equipment and techs.

Primary equipment like LED daytime running lights, sunroof, fog lamps, infotainment system, wireless charger, keyless entry, auto aircon, cruise control, leather seats, ventilated front seats, etc, are available with both the SUVs, despite having some differences in design and functional operation. The Kia Seltos heats it up with LED headlamps, a large 10.25-inch full HD touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, HUD, rear seats with manual reclining function, drive modes and even 8-speaker Bose premium sound system. Whereas the Hyundai Creta makes do with projector headlamps, a 7-inch touchscreen unit and a 4-speaker Arkamys audio system.
In particular, for the first time, we are glad to hear about Kia’s UVO intelligent connectivity features in the Seltos. Though Hyundai already has the Blue Link technology in the recently-launched Hyundai Venue which looks quite similar to Kia’s UVO system, it remains unknown when it can make its way to the Hyundai Creta.

Kia’s 1.4-litre GDI turbo-petrol engine is set to put out 140 HP of max power and 242 Nm of peak torque. This mill will be exclusive to the GT Line trim, which reflects the higher sporty variant of the model. Besides, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor of the Seltos can churn out 115 HP / 144 Nm unit, which looks marginally less powerful than the Creta’s 1.6-litre gasoline motor on paper.
Both the Seltos and Creta get the choice of a 6-speed manual gearbox but they turn out to think differently in the automatic transmission intentions. The Creta employs two automatic gearboxes for its petrol range, including a 7-speed DCT (for the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol) and a torque converter (1.5-litre petrol unit). In the meantime, the Creta gets a 6-speed torque converter on offer with its 1.6-litre engine option.

For the diesels, Kia brings in a new-gen 1.5-litre oil burner making 115 HP /250 Nm of torque that slots between the 90 HP/ 220 Nm 1.4-litre and 128 HP/ 260 Nm 1.6-litre diesel burners of the Creta. Again, the 6-speed manual transmission becomes standard on both these cars’ engines but the Seltos and the 1.6-litre diesel version of the Creta come up with an optional 6-speed torque converter for the automatic solutions.
The Kia Seltos prices remain to be known since the SUV have not gone on sale yet. However, it is expected that Kia will position the Seltos quite competitively at the price sticker of around Rs 11-17 Lakh (ex-showroom) to create a buzz of excitement around its launch. At this price point, the Kia Seltos prices will be a tad higher than that of the Hyundai Creta, which is, in fact, standing among the pricier mid-size SUVs in India.

Kia Seltos | Hyundai Creta |

It remains after staying behind the wheels of the Seltos that the other half of the story will be revealed. However, considering the enticing design, juicy price (albeit estimated) and lengthy features list, the Seltos surely has the makings of a runaway hit.
On the other hands, the Hyundai Creta has been the most trusted option amongst other mid-size SUVs with all the ingredients that the Indian buyers like. The current-gen Creta seems unlikely to be weakened in its popularity stakes and remember, Hyundai is standing its ground with the new-gen Creta due to come in 2020. Till then, however, it looks like the new SUV will become the winner of our Kia Seltos Vs Hyundai Creta comparison. Keep waiting and stay updated with more details with Indianauto.com.
