The Hyundai Creta E+ and EX now come with a more powerful 1.6-litre diesel engine option. Equipment list remains unchanged.

Hyundai India has quietly added a new powerful 1.6-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine into the entry-level E+ and EX trims of the current-gen Hyundai Creta. Prices of the new models will be revealed soon.

Previously, this diesel engine option is available from the S AT variant upwards. However, it now finds its ways to the entry-level models, albeit being offered with a 6-speed MT only. Currently, prices of the Creta diesel range from Rs 9.99 Lakh (for the base 1.4 E Plus diesel model) and Rs 15.67 Lakh (for the top-spec 1.6 SX (O) Executive trim).

As for the 1.6-litre diesel engine, it is capable of churning out 127 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 260 Nm of torque between 1,500 – 3,000 rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard for the E+, EX, SX dual tone and SX(O) while the 6-speed torque converter auto is only available on the SX variant.

The biggest rival of the Creta is the newly-launched Kia Seltos which has achieved 50,000 bookings in less than 50 days. Besides, it also competes aggressively with the likes of MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur. The Creta is also set to experience a generation change in the coming time, with a new-gen model expected to come to us in 2020.
