The India-bound facelifted Skoda Superb will come with a sharper styling design and more powertrain options.

While the Volkswagen Passat experienced some major updates earlier this year, the Skoda Superb is confirmed to be the next in line for similar makeovers. Recently, the Czech carmaker has launched the first batch of images and details about the updated Skoda sedan which is, in all likeliness, set to reach our shores in the foreseeable future.

The Skoda Superb facelift has been announced to come with a plug-in hybrid system for the first time ever.

On the exterior package, the mid-life facelift of Skoda Superb comes to gain a whole new look thanks to a redesigned front grille, new Audi-inspired full LED Matrix headlamps and fresh sleeker front bumper which helps increase the overall length of the car to 4,869 mm. On the rear end, the Skoda’s logo will be replaced by the new brand’s lettering which runs across the boot while the full LED tail lamps receive some slight graphics changes and a set of sequential turn signals. The new sedan will be available with two new body colour options, namely the Race Blue and Crystal Black.

The refreshed Skoda sedan will make its entry into India sometime in 2020.

For the first time, the Skoda Superb will be introduced with a plug-in hybrid system. Powering the Superb facelift will be a 1.4-litre TSI gasoline mill paired with a 112 HP electric motor, which can, by all ways, churn out the total output of 217 HP and 400 Nm. Power will be transferred to the front wheels through a 6-speed DSG transmission. This time, the battery pack will be mounted under the floor and close to the rear axle that will lead to a marginal reduction in the car's boot space to 485 litres. The charging port is well-hidden behind the front grille and the battery status, the electric range might be displayed on the infotainment system.

In the pure electric mode, the new sedan might cover the range of 55 km which is on par with that of the plug-in hybrid Volkswagen Passat GTE sibling. Detailed performance figures of the updated Superb remain to be seen, but some car connoisseurs suggested that they would be matched with the Passat’s figures as well. That said, the car will be capable of doing the 0-100 kmph sprint in around 7.4 seconds.

Furthermore, the existing 188 HP 2.0-litre TSI engine option is supposed to be offered on the facelifted version too. Besides, the range-topping variant is more likely to retain the 276 HP 2.0-litre turbocharged motor option and all.

The new conventional Skoda Superb will go on sale in the global markets in September 2019, followed by the plug-in hybrid variant due to come in early 2020. Expecting the refreshed Skoda Superb to enter India early next year too. When launched, the new Skoda’s offering will aggressively rival the equivalent models like Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in India.
